Friends and Family of Jon Orr
Praying for God to be Glorified in All Things
Devoted Father, Believer, and Man of God
Jon Orr, age 51, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
In late August 2025, Jon was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer. True to the way he lived his life, Jon chose a holistic, noninvasive approach to treatment. He moved to Clearwater, Florida, where he spent two meaningful months with his daughters and his mother. He later returned to Birmingham to be cared for by family, where he remained until the Lord called him home.
Everyone who met Jon was touched by his kindness and humility. He had a way of making each person feel seen, heard, and valued. Jon was a true free spirit who embraced life fully. From a young age he loved the outdoors, traveling often, camping, hiking, and exploring God’s creation. He had a joyful, adventurous heart and a quiet strength that drew people to him. Conversations with Jon were never small talk; when he spoke with you, he gave his undivided attention and genuinely cared for you. He loved deeply and without judgment, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met. Music was another of his passions, and he spent many years in sound production, collaborating with bands, producing documentaries, working in television, and much more. He always used his gifts to serve others and glorify God. Jon’s life was a testament to faith, love, and humility; he lived fully, loved openly, and left the world brighter simply by being in it. And most importantly, a faithful servant of the Lord.
Above all else, Jon was an incredible and deeply devoted father. He was the structure and foundation of his daughters’ lives, faithfully present in every season. He instilled in them the values and beliefs of the Bible and gave them wisdom, love, and memories far beyond what most receive in a lifetime. Though their time together was far too short, Jon’s intentional, unwavering involvement in their lives ensured they were rooted in faith, strength, and truth. He practiced daily how to be a father by maintaining a deep and personal relationship with his Heavenly Father, and that relationship shaped every part of his parenting.
Jon went home to Jesus with his mother, daughters, sister, brother, niece, and nephew by his side. His family finds comfort in knowing they were blessed to be with him in his final moments on this earth. A private, family celebration was held February 12, 2026. Jim Alexander, Pastor with Briarwood Presbyterian Church officiated, a beautiful Christ centered fellowship. The family honored Jon with stories of his life, laughter, tears and remembrance. Praise God for memories of Jon, such a wonderful father, son, brother, uncle and friend. You will be missed but “We Will Show Up!“
His family takes peace in the words of 2 Corinthians 5:8: “We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”
Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rayburn and Melva Jones. He is survived by his loving mother, Laine Crook; his two daughters, Rya Orr and Asher Orr; his brother, Justin Orr (Donna); his sister, Julie Hovanec (Doug); and his nieces and nephews, Hunter Orr (Autumn), Merritt Belling (Michael), Caleb Orr, Mason Huey, and Morgan Huey. Who will forever know him as JonJon. While these are his blood relatives, Jon also leaves behind a much larger family of friends and brothers in Christ who loved him deeply and walked alongside him in faith.
Jon was lovingly cared for by his mother, Laine, who walked with him from his first breath to his last. Hearing him enter this world and witnessing his return to his Savior. She and his siblings remained faithfully by his side, just as they had throughout all 51 wonderful years of his life.
Jon will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his gentle strength, and the love he poured into everyone he met. While his time on earth has ended, his legacy of faith, fatherhood, and service will continue to live on in the many lives he touched—especially in the hearts of his daughters.
Details for Jon Jon’s celebration of life will be shared here as soon as the family has finalized the plans.
